  Brushstrokes

Some say “Color makes the quilt.” Others believe the adage that “Color takes the credit, but value does the work.” In the case of Brushstrokes, however, it’s more about the fabrics. Only two fabrics are used – that’s right, only two. One fabric is an abstract print with large textural splotches of various colors, much like in an artist’s palette. The other is a gradated fabric that ranges in value from a light to dark blue-gray. The gradated fabric provides needed changes in value. The print provides a “painterly” look. The sweeping curved units take on a brushstroke appearance. It all works together to capture the effect that Judy was trying to achieve.
